One wouldn’t expect a play about the clash between Western and Middle Eastern cultures to yield consistent belly laughs, but Jason Wells’ sophisticated new comedy about the miscommunications that result during an American diplomatic mission to a totalitarian Middle Eastern regime is consistently hilarious. Director Maria Gobetti helms a superlative cast in a perfectly paced production that is as intellectually provocative as it is side-splitting. “Ruin” establishes Wells as a writer of the first rank. – Los Angeles Times: Critics Choice
Jason Wells’ black farce….(is) literate, sophisticated, hip, hilariously funny and relatively free of political bias. Director Maria Gobetti has assembled a top-notch cast, and given the piece a beautiful and assured production. – STAGE RAW: Recommended
TOP NOTCH…. A complex and beautifully crafted political comedy….written with dark comedic brilliance…very clever and entertaining….HILARIOUS. – THE TOLUCAN TIMES
…a really fantastic play. A funny, brilliantly written, a richly drawn, intellectually perceptive and purposefully hilarious diatribe on the extreme difficulties involved in translating both our language and our culture in this rapidly destabilizing, polarized world. The casting is quite brilliant and none of these extraordinary characters is anything close to being a caricature, far from it in fact. Every one of these wonderful actors brings their roles to life with such realism, humor and affection that we end up cheering for all sides…. Too much praise I hear you ask? Perhaps, but it’s just such a brilliant play beautifully acted and directed I can’t help myself. I cannot recommend this play highly enough. – NOHO NEWS
